Gone Fishin In Search of The Anglers Eldorado New Zealand

Graeme Sinclair

Zane Grey started something with his book Tales of the Angler’s Eldorado – New Zealand; published in 1926.  It squarely placed New Zealand on the international fishing map.  The thrilling accounts of battles with giant marlin and sharks, and lyrical account of trout fishing in the pristine Tongariro river acted as a magnet for anglers, all over the world, drawn to this angler’s eldorado.

For the last eight years Graeme Sinclair has been continuing what Zane Grey stated as he has traveled New Zealand and the Pacific filming the ever popular Gone Fishin’ television programme.  His travels have taken him to remote and pristine places in pursuit of the fish that inhabit those places.  From the giant broadbill of the Middlesex Bank, to the trophy trout of Lake Okataina.  The resulting programmes have told not only his audience in New Zealand but in eight other countries around the world about the superb fishing available to all in New Zealand.

In this his latest books he not only goes in search of the Anglers Eldorado but finds it and along the way meets a lot of interesting people and experiences some of the best fishing action ever recorded.

Author, director and often star of the popular television program Gone Fishin’ Graeme Sinclair has dramatically demonstrated that being in a wheelchair is no impediment to having a successful career and enjoying very minute of it.  Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis several years ago, Graeme has forged ahead with his career and TV programme, making Gone Fishin’ one of the most popular programmes on TV3.

He claims his biggest buzz is meeting the people that watch the show.  To do this he attends boat and fishing shows all over New Zealand.  He is also in demand as a motivational speaker not only by international companies but also groups supporting or helping people with disabilities.

One theme he constantly returns to is protection of the fishery and environment for future generations, “limiting our catch, will ensure our children and their children continue to enjoy the Anglers Eldorado – New Zealand.”

Graeme is married to the beautiful Sandee, has a young son, James and lives in Auckland.
