Gold for the Taking

A practical guide to finding and keeping gold in New Zealand

Sandy and Judy Fairservice

Why do people today search for gold?  We may be looking for an unexpected windfall to pay off the mortgage, or take that trip, or buy our dream home.  Sometimes we just like the idea of having a bit of flash around and admire.  Whatever your reason for wanting to find your own gold, you will enjoy this book.

Sandy and Judy Fairservice have covered all necessary gold-fossicking topics practically and readably.  You will find clear instructions on where to go to find gold, how to get it by digging, panning and using a sluice box, and what to do with gold once you’ve got it.  There is also a chapter on metal detecting as it relates to gold-fossicking and a comprehensive list of New Zealand’s gold-bearing rivers and creeks.  All up-to-date information, supported by encouraging evocative stories.

Sandy & Judy are a cheerful and enthusiastic Christchurch couple who have been gold-fossicking for over 25 years.

Sandy a Scot, came to New Zealand as a child, where he was educated at Whakatane High School.  He has worked in the media for much of his adult career and has written many articles and several books.  With a lifelong interest in science, he is a member of the Royal Society.

Judy was born in Blenheim and trained there and in London as a nurse.  She was a foundation member of the Emergency Care and Disaster Nursing Association of New Zealand.  She has written many articles on outdoor topics.  Judy and Sandy currently develop people and teach the Bible to young adults.
