Shooting Smarter with the .22 Rifle
Brad Parkes has been at the forefront of the .22RF small game hunting and shooting scene in New Zealand for over 30 years.
In 1972, he established the then New Zealand Small Game Shooter’s Sporting Association, serving as its National President for the following 10 years. In 1983 he became Executive Officer to the New Zealand Fish & Game council (reflecting his growing passion for hunting gamebirds) until resigning in 1998 to move to Napier, self-employment and setting up home with partner, Heather.
The past six years has seen a continuation of his prolific writing on outdoor issues and hunting, contributing to many of the country’s hunting and fishing magazines, well illustrated by his ability in wildlife photography. He writes the weekly outdoors column for Hawke’s Bay Today newspaper. This, his fourth book in Halcyon Press stable, follows Small Game Hunting in New Zealand 1990), Gamebird Hunting in New Zealand (1992) and Smokin’ – A practical guide to smoking New Zealand meat, fish and game (1999).
He resolutely denies any bias towards a preference for yellow Labrador gun-dogs but, strangely, one of those always accompanies him whenever he escapes into the hills with rifle or shotgun.
