Fish ‘n’ Chaps

Bob South

If you flyfish long enough, the joys are less about the numbers or size of fish you catch, or the new rivers you discover, or the home waters you revisit time and again.  The joys are more about the lifelong mates with whom you go fishing, or the people you unexpectedly meet while near some favourite stream.  Fishing is about recollections, about salient yarns that develop from past fishing expeditions, about the people who have made your flyfishing experiences memorable.  Bob South has fished for many years, both in the United States and New Zealand and has made lasting friendships and not a few acquaintances through his pursuit of trout and his work as an angling writer/editor.  In this book he recalls many of those with whom he has been fortunate enough to share time on the river. Fishing is a social pastime for many and companionship is not only half the reason we angle, it often goes a long way toward redeeming an otherwise bad day.  Fish ‘n’ Chaps is filled with people stories and is presented in the offbeat, light-hearted fashion that characterizes South’s style.

Bob South is an American who has lived in New Zealand for 31 years.  He has been editor of the award winning magazine Fish & Game New Zealand (Quantas Media Awards Best Newstand Magazine and Magazine Publisher’s Association Magazine of the Year) since its inception in 1993.  Formerly features editor of NZ Fishing News, and a former award winning sports columnist for one of the country’s leading national Sunday papers, South is author of two previous books, Trophy Trout and Reflections on the Water.
